Course explores how speakers are socialized into using language to perform and subvert culturally recognizable identities and selves across cultural contexts, with a particular focus on the relationship of language to the racialized and gendered body. Topics may include sexualities, neurodiversity, body size, disability, class, and the enduring legacies of colonialism and racial capitalism in shaping contemporary practices of self-making around the globe.
