Catalog description

This course Examines the religious themes within America history and culture. The course focuses on a number of cases to analyze the power and pervasiveness of religion in American life as it both directly and indirectly informs public and private life. The course will focus upon the mythic vision of America and American exceptionalism; the roles of religious liberty in American life; the religious experiences of African-Americans; the rise of Fundamentalism and its influence on American politics; feminism and religion; and religious pluralism in America.
