This course explores the philosophy of democracy, with special attention to how democratic structures inform the quality of life of its members. Topics may include the historical development of the concept of democracy, the problem of democratic citizenship, the ideal kind of legislative institution, the limitations of democratic authority, and the tension between liberty and equality in contemporary pluralist democracies.
