Catalog description

This course offers students an introduction to selected world regions and cultures through the study of contemporary film. By incorporating films with social, historical, and political contexts of discrete regions, students will develop a critical understanding of the relationship between foreign films and their represented cultures. Students will view a variety of films from a selected linguistic region (e.g. French and francophone world, Latin America, Basque country, etc.), and explore significant culture topics such as race, politics, gender, and/or family. Prerequisite: ENGL 1109 (GE 1A) or the equivalent.
