Catalog description

This course explores how data science, statistics, and artificial intelligence represent revolutionary innovations in scientific inquiry that use scientific reasoning to explain and predict patterns in the natural and social world. Students study how data-driven models are generated, evaluated, and refined, and how evidence and uncertainty inform technological and scientific advancement. Emphasis is placed on scientific and quantitative reasoning, algorithmic bias, and the interpretation of uncertainty in scientific and social contexts. The course reinforces the foundational skills of Quantitative Reasoning and Critical Thinking through applied analysis, problem-based learning, and reflective evaluation. 150 minutes of lecture/discussion per week.
