Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce students to foundations of the teaching profession. Students will be introduced to the socio-cultural foundations of education, purposes of education, current issues in education, cultural, linguistic and neuro diversity in the classroom, culturally sustaining pedagogy, teaching strategies, and integrating technology in the classroom. Additional topics will include: Education fundamentals;, teaching roles and responsibilities; teaching careers and credential pathways in multiple subjects, single subject, Dual Language Bilingual Education and Special Education; soft skills of teaching, professionalism, and learning environments. Students will be introduced to the major current issues in education, planning for higher education, and the practical nature of a career in teaching. This course is intended to start students on their journey of acquiring the attitudes and skills that an excellent teacher possesses.
