Catalog description

This course examines characteristic institutions and modes of thought from the legendary origins of Chinese civilization (2000s BCE) to the early years of the last dynasty (1600s CE). Topics include China's archeological origins, the rise of textual traditions, the development of political and economic institutions, philosophical debates, social structures, popular religions, and foreign relations.
