Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to methods and materials in the teaching of second language reading. Topics of discussion include second language student characteristics, instructional practices and strategies, syllabus and lesson plan design, text and materials selection, reading tasks, and responding to and assessing reading. Special attention will be given to the reading problems of junior high school and senior high school students learning to read in English and to appropriate instructional procedures helpful to such students.
