Provides an overview of the literary genres and generic developments of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Focusing upon major writers such as Wyatt, Sidney, Spenser, Lanyer, Donne, and Herbert, this course explores the relationship between their imaginative achievements and the literary, religious, and political contexts in which these works were written and read.
