This course explores the conceptual, metaphysical, and methodological issues involved in the study of white-collar crime. It begins with Sutherland's initial study and continues with contemporary research; it delves into the character, causes, and consequences of this type of crime; it explores the relationship of white collar crime and elite deviance to other types of illegal and deviant activity; it examines the response of the law and of the justice system to white collar crime; and it considers the prospects for deterring, preventing, and eliminating white collar crime.
