Survey of the institutional, aesthetic, political and cultural history of motion pictures around the world, from the pre-history of the medium to 21-century digital cinema. Issues in current film studies regarding globalization, diaspora, cinematic style, national identity, and visual culture will also be examined. Prerequisites: At least 60 units and completion of lower division Area 3.
