Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce students to the theory and practice of modern inorganic chemistry. This includes fundamentals of electronic spectra in inorganic chemistry, uses of molecular symmetry in IR spectroscopy, catalytic cycles, interhalogen species, organometallic compounds of p, d, and f block elements, acid-base chemistry in both aqueous and non-aqueous systems, Valence-bond and molecular orbital theory of more than diatomics, f- block periodicity, and diagonal relationships. 100 minutes of lecture/discussion and 150 minutes of laboratory per week.
