Catalog description

This course is designed to provide students with direct experience with a variety instrumental techniques used for chemical analysis. One substance will be made available to the class for instrumental analysis. Additionally, students will apply the techniques of chemical separation to enrich, or purify, a substance of interest and subject to the same instrumental techniques. Separation of analytes from complex mixtures will be examined with a particular focus on instrumental analysis of the analyte. The instrumental techniques covered will include UV/Vis, IR, HPLC, AAS, GC/MS, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. 300 minutes of laboratory per week.
