Catalog description

Introduces students to the major concepts of instrumental analysis and to some of the instrumental techniques most commonly used in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry. It emphasizes the use of modern, commercial instrumentation to perform quantitative and qualitative analyses of the physical properties and chemical composition of samples. This course is designed to provide students with a practical understanding of common instrumental techniques utilized in chemical analysis. This will involve sample preparation and method development for UV/Vis, IR, and Fluorescence Spectroscopy as well as Atomic Absorption, Mass Spectrometry, and NMR. 150 minutes of laboratory per week. Student may not receive credit if previously taken CHEM 4131 .
