Catalog description
This course introduces core concepts of inorganic chemistry focusing on metals and selected nonmetals in biology. This includes oxidation-reduction reactions, acid-base chemistry, coordination chemistry, periodicity, bioinorganic thermodynamics, aspects of symmetry and group theory, crystal and ligand field theory, and fundamental transition metal chemistry as it applies to biological systems. 150 minutes of lecture/discussion per week.
