Examines the impact of European economic and political expansion on non-Western cultures with particular attention to the effects of global capitalistic processes within the last half of the twentieth century, as well as indigenous responses to those global pressures. Historical consideration of the pre-colonial and colonial setting, organized responses to colonial and Western domination, economic dependency, and contemporary strategies for dealing with globalization, including transmigration.
