Catalog description

Examination of cultural variation through ethnographic films and commercial cinema from an anthropological perspective. Consideration of cultural values, gender roles, social stratification, and other socialized phenomena as depicted in American films, American films reinterpreted by non-American directors, foreign films reinterpreted by American film directors, as well as non-American films conceived and directed by non-American directors. Evaluation of the universals portrayed in films worldwide as well as culturally-specific use of symbology to depict those universals.
