Catalog description

Qualitative methods are increasingly common in social science fields. In this doctoral seminar, we will explore the research approaches and methodological practices associated with designing, conducting and publishing high-quality field research. We will focus on the processes of observation, interviewing, discovery, justification, theorizing, and writing. The course is relevant for those interested in conducting qualitative research (either by itself or as a mixed methods approach), as well as for readers of publications based on qualitative data. The course will be practicum-based; we will be using these techniques to collect and analyze data.
