Catalog description

Examines critical intersections between racial identities and performance practices, such as casting, season selection, acting, directing, comedy, and dance. To understand how race functions as a historical and cultural construct, we will read foundational plays and other texts to consider how diverse writers and artists cultivate and constitute new understandings of race through imaginative performances. We will also explore how notions of race become contested and championed through casting and production practices at mainstream and ethnically-specific venues.
