A look at the nuts and bolts of academic research, from gaining access to sources to reading proofs. Topics include: search methods, finding aids, documentation, citation, self-editing, writing strategies, review process (receiving and giving), self-editing, and publication procedures. The course also examines the practical and intellectual problems associated with editing a literary text or historical document for publication, also editing an anthology or journal. Practical exercises throughout.
