Catalog description

Explores rock climbing and mountaineering as performance in theater and documentary film. Classes consist of lectures, guest speakers, film viewing, and discussion where we interrogate what it means to be a performer in a sport like climbing. In looking at climbers of different lived experiences, this class offers new understandings of the study of sport through performance, how the climbing body informs our understanding of the role of the actor, and how the performing body disrupts or upholds dominant cultural and social narratives.
