Autobiographical Memory
University of California Santa Barbara · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Autobiographical memory encompasses everything we know about our personal past, from semantic information about ourselves (e.g., where you were born) to the most significant moments of our lives that shape who we are. This course is a deep dive into how life’s events are remembered and why we remember (and forget) so much of our life. We will discuss the difficulty with studying autobiographical memory from a scientific perspective (e.g., evaluating the accuracy of autobiographical memories) and how researchers approach the study of the personal past, drawing from cognitive and personality psychology, and neuroscience.
