The Politics of International Intervention

This graduate seminar explores the politics of international intervention, examining how external actors attempt to shape domestic outcomes through tools such as foreign aid, peacebuilding, post-conflict statebuilding, foreign-imposed regime change, and election interference. We analyze the motives behind these interventions, their design, and their consequences for domestic governance, legitimacy, and stability. Through case studies and theoretical debates, students will develop a critical understanding of the effectiveness and ethical implications of international involvement in sovereign affairs.
