Catalog description

An introduction to atomic physics. Covers basic atomic structure of one and two valence electron atoms, the Zeeman effect, and the semiclassical treatment of atoms interacting with near-resonant light. We also discuss laser cooling and trapping, as well as selected advanced topics such as atomic clocks, trapped ion dynamics, and the application of atoms in quantum information science.
