SP: Nanoscale Energy Transport & Conversion

A self-contained, application-oriented course covering basic concepts in nanoscale transport and interaction of microscopic energy carriers, mainly electrons, phonons and photons, with an emphasis on new phenomena that emerge at small length and time scales and deviate from macroscopic laws. Topics include (may vary based on time frame): energy levels and statistics of energy carriers; kinetic theory and mean free path; energy transport by waves and the Landauer formalism; near-field radiation; energy transport by particles: Boltzmann transport equation and classical size effect; carrier scattering; energy dissipation. Recent research results and real-world applications are discussed wherever relevant.
