Special Topics in Mechanical Engineering: Advanced Dynamics
University of California Santa Barbara · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Focuses on modeling dynamics of single and multi-body engineering systems undergoing 3D motion. By formulating the differential geometry and kinematics of curvilinear coordinates to permit kinematic descriptions of relative motion and rotation of rigid bodies and mechanisms subject to common constraints. Momentum and inertia properties of rigid body dynamics. Introduced to analytical dynamics, where Lagranges equations and Kanes method are derived and studied. Applications include spacecraft dynamics, micro-scale system dynamics, and vehicle dynamics.
