Systems Medicine
University of California Santa Barbara · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Explores systems medicine through computational modeling of physiological circuits. Students will develop Python simulations to understand hormone circuits, immune system behavior, and aging processes. Combines theoretical foundations with hands-on modeling exercises to examine how diseases emerge from circuit fragilities. Through mathematical modeling and computational analysis, students will investigate complex physiological systems and learn disease classification based on signaling topology. Students will gain both theoretical knowledge and applied computational skills while exploring how feedback, robustness, and emergent behaviors influence health and disease.
