Catalog description

A brief introduction to the topological band theory and topological materials. Review of the traditional band theory including the Bloch theory, semiconductors, and metals. Introduction to the concept of topological invariance by the simplest topological system, 1D insulator described by the SSH model. Using the 1D SSH model as the building block to understand the topological invariants in 2D, the TKNN number, and the Z2 index. The same approach will be adopted again to understand the 3D topological invariants using the knowledge we obtained in the 2D systems. Introduction to many of the typical topological materials and the experimental studies on these materials.
