Cognitive Approaches to Writing

Catalog description

This seminar will explore cognitive approaches to the study and practice of writing. Students will be introduced to the multidisciplinary study of cognition and its application in composition and literary studies. Through selected readings and seminar discussions, we will examine the historical context of cognitive studies and what a ‘4E cognition' approach can contribute to the study of writing, literacy development, and transfer. This course will also invite students to reflect on their own writing and reading practices and develop a deeper awareness of their thinking and learning processes to carry with them through their UCSB studies.
