Global Ethnic Cleansing

Catalog description

This graduate seminar explores interdisciplinary approaches to the study of ethnic cleansing and genocide. It surveys how historians, political scientists, anthropologists, and other scholars explore humanity’s failures, from imperial genocides, through the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust, to contemporary atrocities. Students will examine cutting-edge scholarship on ethnic nationalism and cleansing, forced displacement, settler colonialism, and politics of genocide recognition and denialism. The course is open to graduate students in different disciplines and departments.
