An international exploration of cinema's role in revolutionary movements from the 20th to the early 21st century. This course delves into film as a tool for social and political change, considering its influence and interaction with worldwide revolutions. The course studies the function of film in propaganda and its transformation by revolutionary aesthetics and narratives. The role of digital technology in contemporary revolutionary movements is also examined. Students will acquire skills to critically interpret films within their historical and political milieu and analyze the connection between film production and societal transitions. Prior background in film studies is beneficial but not required.
