Catalog description

Examines the relationships between media, spectacle, and surveillance, moving from discourses of visual power and control in classic surveillance theory, to contemporary heuristics for understanding the digital era of data collection and tracking technologies. In the context of such technological developments, the class moreover urges students to think about the uneven operations of surveillance in relation to race, gender, economic status, power, and empowerment.
