Catalog description

This seminar investigates the relationship between police power and film and media from the late nineteenth century to the present. Students will analyze a range of media including, photography, silent cinema, American and international studio and independent features, avant-garde film, dash cam, body cam, and cell phone footage, and digital technologies that employ crime statistics and predictive policing. In addition to film and media theory, students will study theories of criminality, punishment, and abolition.
