Catalog description

A fast-paced, writing-intensive dive into the world of sketch-writing, digital shorts, monologues, and stand-up comedy. We explore the foundational principals of scene-structure, joke-structure, and comedic voice through analysis of classic and contemporary examples, with an emphasis on developing your own unique point-of-view. Through in-class collaboration and a supportive “room-writing” environment, writers practice pitching, punching-up, producing, and performing individual, team, and group-generated material on a professional deadline, culminating in a performance/portfolio of written work, as well as tools to take a funny idea from concept to completion.
