Catalog description

In Xochitl, In Cuicatl -- A Xicana Indgena perspective provides the cultural & philosophical lens through which the genre of poetry is explored. The course references the original American writings of Mesoamrica as it examines late 20th and 21st century poetry shaped by what might be defined as Xicanx/(Afro)Latinx/Indigenous consciousness. This lecture course is designed to encourage student poets to recuperate both personal and ancestral memory in the effort to uncover home-grown and innovative sites of language-making and social consciousness. The syllabus includes guest writers and artists. An Amoxtli (a 10-page manuscript of original and revised poetry) plus a critical introduction is required by course end.
