Medieval Women's Writing

Catalog description

This course focuses on works of medieval women's writing from the twelfth to the fifteenth century. We consider the ways that these texts work in and against premodern structures of gendered power, and the new formal and aesthetic possibilities opened up by the marginalized positions that these writers occupied. Core texts include Marie de France's Fables, The Wooing of Our Lord, Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love, and The Book of Margery Kempe.
