ECON 250K
Personnel Economics II
University of California Santa Barbara · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course provides a treatment of personnel economics, and the application of labor economics to issues inside of firms. We focus on topics covered less in the course by Professor Peter Kuhn, including hiring, workplace amenities, workplace communication, management practices, managers, monitoring, and time use. The majority of papers we will read will be empirical papers. However, much of personnel economics is grounded in economic theory, so we will also go through theoretical ideas and some theory papers. We will also spend time developing our taste for what constitutes a quality empirical research paper. The ultimate goal is for you to leave prepared to undertake your own empirical research.
