Catalog description

Examines how food, production and consumption, and the related socio-political issues have been represented in East Asian cinemas. Students specifically look at how films illustrate the relationship between food and culture, familial relationships, generational conflicts, class struggle, and personal identities. Students explore narrative, visual, and symbolic uses of food in the context of popular culture and transnationalism. No prior knowledge of film studies is required. All films are subtitled.
