Catalog description

A studio-based, physical practice exploration of flamenco. Using the basic comps (rhythmic structures) of flamenco, we explore the different components of flamenco dance technique: floreo (hand movements) brazeo/braceo (arm movements), palmas (rhythmic hand-clapping), marcaje (marking, or movement through space), vueltas (turns) and zapateado (footwork). Students learn basic technical elements, short sections of choreography and may be offered supplemental readings and viewings by some of flamencos most celebrated artists to contextualize the technical practice of the form.
