Catalog description
Cicero, Romes greatest trial lawyer and sharpest wit, faced many tough cases in his long career at the bar (81-43 BC). Students will read a selection of Ciceros most famed speeches against the background of Roman handbooks on forensic argument, compare his strategy with that of opposing counsel, and consider the similarities as well as differences between Roman procedures and our own. Aspiring lawyers are very welcome, as are all students interested in persuasive speaking or Roman culture.
