Reading, Writing, and Reimagining the Literatures of Social Change

Catalog description

This course uses literature as a basis for reigniting our passion for and faith insocial change. It assumes that our service and action programs, together with awhole host of academic inquiry and research practices, are failing that oureducational and social change missions, for example, can no longer adequatelyaddress the massive social and ecological problems and political initiatives wenow face. Rigorous readings by thinkers as diverse as Angela Davis, Paulo Freire,bell hooks, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Joanna Macy, Abraham Rodriguez, DerrickJensen, Martn Prechtel, together with equally rigorous field-work in localschools will offer up new models for addressing social, ecological and educationalchallenges.
