Why do museums (whether of art, culture, history, science, religion, technology or otherwise) seem to generate unending controversies concerning ethics, cultural politics, authenticity and ownership? Through the lens of wide-ranging readings in museum theory, this seminar examines the museum as an institution and a set of cultural practices, exploring recent museum controversies and debating the merits of theexhibitions and the efficacy of the responses.
