This advanced survey explores the art of colonial Mexico, or New Spain, from the 16th through 18th centuries and focuses on art and architectures role in forming a colonial society. We discuss Indigenous experiences of colonialism and forms of resistance as well as how manuscripts, architecture, paintings, maps, featherworks, and public festivals constructed ideas of place, colonial society, and social identity.
