Catalog description

This Black Design focus course introduces new approaches and practice-based design strategies to studio-driven student research to address the pressing issues surrounding social justice and environmental sustainability. Students from both Art and Black Studies engage in the expanded role of art/artists in exploring place, identity, belonging and locality to draw from and activate the rich underrepresented histories and culture through design research and new technologies to reimagine public spaces, and to creatively address issues of racial trauma, gun violence, gentrification and police/community relations within an environmental justice frame.
