Explores perspectives on militarism, peace, and justice through social theory on bureaucracy and mutiny; power and alienation; institutional culture and practice; recruitment and displacement; security and migration; surveillance and protest; health and trauma; aggression and cooperation; conquest and emancipation; military and civilian tribunals/ prisons; war technology; and community development. Applied research skills are developed through contemporary case studies and optional community partnerships. Recommended Preparation: SOC 101 , SOC 105 , SOC 311 , SOC 313 , SOC 315 , SOC 320 , and SOC 361 . May not be taken for credit by students who received credit for: SOC 489-11.
