Covers foundations of cognitive and social communication. Discusses theories of cognitive development and cognitive functions. Introduces the role of cognitive processes, such as attention, memory, problem-solving, and executive functions, that underlie communication. Explores theories and the use of verbal and nonverbal communication for social purposes across the lifespan. Discusses the development and breakdown of social communication and cognition and the influence on communicative interaction and language.
