Catalog description

Focuses on the role of the advanced practice psychiatric mental health nurse, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning of co-morbid medical conditions commonly occurring in patients with psychiatric-mental health disorders. Develops and practices tools utilized in the care and treatment of individuals living with mental illness, including the establishing of a therapeutic relationship and alliance, utilization of therapeutic communication techniques, including motivational interviewing, culminating in the completion of a comprehensive mental health assessment. Enrollment Restrictions: Enrollment restricted to students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Prerequisite(s): NURS 502 , NURS 503, NURS 504 , NURS 506 .
