Explores how to approach and understand the emerging field of pseudo-reality (artificial-intelligence-generated environments) with the theoretical framework of Continental philosophy combined with Eastern philosophy. Introduces the Continental perspectives of Gilles Deleuze, Jean Baudrillard, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, along with the main concepts of Taoism and Buddhism. Examines the meaning-making process of pseudo-reality — augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, or extended reality — in a neo-liberalized context. Recommended Preparation: MDIA 301 or MDIA 360 . May not be taken for credit by students who received credit for: MASS 470-4.
