Catalog description

Introduction of the basic tools of combinatorics and their applications. Permutations, combinations, pigeonhole principle, binomial coefficients, occupancy problems, general counting sequences, recurrences, inclusion/exclusion, combinatorial identities, and generating functions. Enrollment Requirement(s): for graduate students: ( MATH 264 or MATH 374 ) with a grade of C (2.0) or better; and either MATH 350 with a grade of C (2.0) or better, or MATH 270 with a grade of B (3.0) or better. Prerequisite(s): for undergraduate students: ( MATH 264 or MATH 374 ) with a grade of C (2.0) or better; and either MATH 350 with a grade of C (2.0) or better, or MATH 270 with a grade of B (3.0) or better.
