Surveys significant trends in critical theory from the 20th century to the present that inform the study of literature, such as formalism, new criticism, new historicism, cultural studies, and more. Covers recent debates on the role of theory and its importance in relation to literary study. Enrollment Requirement(s): Completion of the lower-division General Education requirement in Critical Thinking (A3). Prerequisite(s): LTWR 300A .
